To my students, staff and parents, The Sherry Martin School of Dance, alias SMSOD, has gone through amazing changes throughout our 33 years. Since the beginning, we've had our recitals at Art Park, Studio Arena, Sheas Buffalo, Kleinhans, Bennett High School and for the past sever years, the UB Performing Art Centre. At one point and for a short time, we opened a studio in Hamburg. Throughout this time we've employed over 100 teachers and thousands of students have studied here several of which have gone onto amazing careers in dance whether performing, teaching or owning their own schools. In the competitive arena attending many of the nationally acclaimed best, we've repeatedly scored and ranked among the top 5%. Our track record is quite amazing and continues to be so. Our staff is, has been and continues to be one of the best group of artists under one roof. As director of this school I am pleased and excited to see our 33rd year off to another great start. "Just Dance", this year's title, will take "Born to Perform" to a new level! Throughout my career I have personally taught and shared my passion for the dance arts and will continue to do so. As my foot surgery last October was a success my arthritis in both hips continues to be a problem along with a bad right knee. Therefore, as a teacher, instead of teaching regular classes, I will offer master classes during the summer. After many interviews, I feel so blessed to have an amazing new staff as well as those teachers who have been brought up through our own school. My intentions, even though I will be in Florida and L.A. throughout the winter, are to remain strongly involved as Artistic Director. In my absence Ann Schinder Walek will remain my right hand person as my manager and will continue to instill the integrity and philosophy of this school. In addition, both Lisa Mackay and Krista Nicosia will be be helping with the administrative duties. Again SMSOD continues to go over and beyond the norm. To be quite honest, I am elated at the caliber of teachers and staff at present. Our school will continue to be one of the best dance schools in America. I firmly believe with my heart and soul that at SMSOD dreams will always come true. Love to all, Sherry Martin King
